Football, Beer and BBQ's

The football World Cup 2006 is underway, there are clear skies and sunshine over Germany and the beer is flowing. Everywhere apparently. Even the thousands of England fans in Germany have been well behaved. Wonders will never cease. Form wise some of the stronger teams in the championship have not played so well (including England) whilst some of the so called weaker teams have played quite well indeed. So since the start of the championship its been footy, beer and grill heaven at the Haddock Ranch. The 42 inch Plasma TV arrives on Wednesday. I sucumbed to the temptation, and for that I must be punished. I choose death by beer.

The hot weather has caused an explosion of growth in the garden. Our first strawberries have ripened and the tomato's are in flower. Unfortunately all gardens in our area seem to have been invaded by a plague of aphids. Luckily ladybirds are now appearing and feeding on them. Hopefully Lacewings will appear soons as well as they also have an apetite for aphids. A few new butterflies have visited the garden, but I have only been able to possitively identify one so far - The Queen of Spain.

On Sunday we went out to lunch with friends and during a walk afterwards I managed to capture a picture of a very vibrantly coloured blue dragonfly which is shown above.

I think the biggest problem with the American team is consistant coaching.

So far, so good with my garden. I put up some pictures on Sunday of my pride and joy!

Is Juniorette enjoying the games on the big screen TV? You can always say, you did it for your child! LOL

Now you can play "My TV is bigger than your TV"! :-) I thought Italy-Ghana played a great game last night but the other ones have been pretty boring.

That's a lovely dragonfly. We have them flying through now and then but they rarely stop to have their pictures taken. And good to know that lacewings also eat aphids because we usually have quite a few of both species around.

TV makers must love the world cup... we have a panasonic plasma (or, splasma, as our 5 year old likes to call it) that's a viewing dream!

Naked Nerd - I've seen the USA play better. Hopefully they will improve in their remaining games. Hope Expat kicks the habit again! :)

Maribeth - I saw your pics which are lovely. Looks like your garden is ahead of us in Germany. The Juniorette is going to love the big screen TV :)

Sparky - It's a Phillips and I think the spec is about average, but we got a reasonable deal as there were a few little scratches on the casing :)

Christina - I actually wanted a TV that was a bit smaller, but Mrs H said we should go for the bigger one. :)
I took me about 20 attempts to get that 1 photo that was framed ok and in focus! :)

Eurotrippen - We almost bought a Panasonic. It was in another shop and looked really good.....it also cost quite a bit more! :)

Hello Mr Haddock. The Dragonfly is actually a species of Damselfly called the Beautiful Demoiselle or Calopteryx virgo, unless you have any other species of Calopteryx in Germany that are similar but I don't think so. The one in the photograph is a Male. Sorry...I got nerdy.

Dixie - I try to please :)

J - Its getting bad, she even now suggests topics that I should blog about! :)

Shiney Steve - Hello your shinyness! It took me a quite a while googling to find out that indeed it is a Damselfly. But in future to save time perhaps I may mail the Shiny one, whose knowledge of the small winged flying beasties I hear is legendary! :)

You should rename your living room the HaddockArena.

Yep, I'm loving the sun too. I'm finally getting my filipino tan back!

Enjoy your 42 inch TV. Last Thursday I saw at least 3 different groups of people carrying plasma TVs from one store in WC preparation. You aren't alone.

Oh yeah, I'm sure it took Ms. H a lot of convincing for you to agree to the bigger screen. NOT! LOL ;-)

Death by beer is good... I think :-)

I'm agreeing with Canadianswiss about the beer. Us Canucks have to stick together!

Hey, nice cross by Beckham to Grouch yesterday. I guess that well placed pass earned him another feather in his overrated cap.

The much exalted Rooney made an appearance. All in all, England is where they should be… advancing to the next round.

No real surprises in this cup yet, save a fine showing by the Soccer-Roos.

The USA was a bitter disappointment; not so much that they lost, but HOW they lost.

The Czechs are arguably the team with the most goods in this CUP. What do ya think?

I am waiting with baited breath to hear how that 42 inch Plasma t.v. is panning out.

Canadianswiss - It's a bitch being on death row! :)

Naked Nerd - Germany looked good and won. England won, but looked bad :(

Traveller One - Death by beer can be the only way to go ! :)

Just another - Beckham is probably overated nowadays. He is past his prime. Rooney is a good player but a total twat as a person :)
Both the Czechs and Spain have played really well so far. Brazil haven't impressed at all so far.

Elle - Its big but the quality is lacking. We are going to try and trade it in for a Panasonic :)
