The local Wood - Update

Last Thursday in a follow up to a previous post the Juniorette and I went to see the Bürgermeister (BM). I was there purely in a moral support role and only said Hello & Goodbye to the BM. The reason for the visit was for the Juniorette to ask some questions regarding all the trees that have been chopped down close to where we live. For a 7 year old the Juniorette did very well and asked her questions clearly and concisely. The BM answered the questions very well indeed and didn’t talk down to her at all. In the end he was asking her what her hobbies were, how she liked school, etc, and said she could drop by his office again with further questions if she had any – A good politician.

So the good news is that the tree felling is now complete and the remaining trees will be allowed to mature. The area will be fenced in and will be grazed by goats. Heather and Ginster will be planted to try and return the habitat back to how it was in former times. This will add to the bio diversity of the area, and the more I think about it, the more I believe it is a good idea. Most important though was that the Juniorette was happy with the answers she received, and the BM has probably won himself a prospective voter for the future.

Great to hear that there is a plan behind cutting down all those trees!

You are so lucky to have a daughter that is so interested in everything, really!

Well done, juniorette and papa! - The "former times" of course is a bit vague, and I don't know, which kinds of trees you had in there chopped down. Probably spruce? And why they will let goats in there? I would have thougt more of sheep (but here in the Odenwald, we have a growing population of goats at farms, too).Obviously, they plan a juniper-scenery there, but where's the juniper? That can get very nice indeed.

1) I am still in awe of Juniorette! What agirl!
2) I am still shocked that the German's allowed a forest to be cleared this way. They value their wood so much!
3) The BM does indeed sound like a politician!

J - She's is definitely not a typical 7 year old :)

Karen - I'm glad there is a plan as well! :)

Deepblue - It sems most of the trees that were cut down were spruce. Not sure of the exact reason for the goats except that goats used to graze there in the past. I guess its to keep the undergrowth short :)

Maribeth - At least the clearing isn't as widespread and extensive as we once feared. The BM seems like a nice bloke and has introduced various green ideas and schemes since he has been in office. These has included planting trees :)

I was wondering when she'd finally get the appointment to see the BM. Glad to read that she was happy with the answers she got and that there was a plan behind the tree chopping :-)

Canadianswiss - The BM Sprechstunde is only once a month and last month the Juniorette had a birthday party invite. The jelly & ice cream took priority! :)

I think there is the spirit of a 30 year old lady trapped inside the body of your 7 year old daughter. She just seems wise beyond her years. What a great kid!

Cynthia - I think you could well be right :)

Naked Nerd - I thought Germany played reasonably well, apart from the defense which looks very dodgy! England played terrible yesterday. They won the 3 points, but apart from that they looked crap! :(
It early stages yet but hopefull England and Germany will find their tue form soon! :)
