tger greenhaddock: England were lucky

England were lucky

After last nights 2-0 win over Trinidad & Tobago England are through to the knockout stages of the World Cup. But they were very lucky and didn’t play well. The team seems to lack the firepower up front and the desire to win. In a nut shell they were boring. The German team on the other hand have looked a lot more dynamic in their last game. They played faster, had more ideas and were very exciting to watch. But what seems weird to me is that Germany now plays as England used to do, and England plays like Germany used to. It must be the coaches. Klinsmann is a fan of English football and the Swede in charge of England seems to want the team to play a more European style of football.

The new Phillips 42 inch plasma TV that arrived on Wednesday is crap. The sound is good, the set looks good, but the picture quality is dire. So I visited a few plasma forums and discovered that I am not alone in my view of the Phillips 42PF7520D/10 plasma screen. So on Saturday we are going back to the shop and we are going to hand this dog back and acquire a Panasonic 37 inch (well that’s the plan anyway). To be honest the 42 inch screen looked too big, but I reckon the smaller screen will be perfect. Maybe England will play better on the new telly.

Interesting your views on the plasma TV. Our next TV will be one, but we are still trying to discover which one is the "right" one. We're in no hurry, as our current "normal" TV is still working.

I've been underwhelmed by England so far as well. They seemed to play well in the last 10 minutes against T&T though, otherwise they would have gone 2 games without scoring a goal (and I'm not counting the one that went in off the head of a Paraguayan). Go Crouchinho!

Too bad about the telly. I bought a LG LCD and I am very pleased with it.

Hm, hard news. (about the t.v.) Sorry for your trouble but thanks for sharing the review with us. It'll save me from making the same mistake in future.

"the Swede in charge of England seems to want the team to play a more European style of football"

I've looked at a lot of plasma TVs and so far I've found that the crummiest pictures were all on Phillips. My favorites so far were Panasonic and Samsung. I'm just trying to put off buying a new TV for a few months yet.

Hope your new Panasonic does you proud!

I didn't have a chance to watch the England game, but then again I wasn't that impressed by the German team either. I am not quite sure how they want to get past Ecuador :-(

When it comes time for England/Germany, please turn on that old plasma TV, would you? ;-)

I haven't been watching the games, I must be the only one in Italy! I think I may have to turn on the games tonight as the US will be playing against Italy (there is no doubt in my mind who will win, the red, white and green). Although I am not a fan, I will have to keep a half eye on the game.

Good luck with you new tv!

England have been dire. Even on my nice, flat Sony. I can't decide whether it's that Sven still doesn't understand that England don't play in the Seria A and can't sit back and defend a 1-0 lead, or the presence of Peter Crouch. Yes, he scored a (dubious) goal against T&T but his mere presence on the pitch seems to tempt the rest of the team to hoof balls up the pitch rather than actually play.
Am I glad that I put money on Argentina before the tournament started (at 13-1 - try and get that now)? Well sort, of, but betting for Argentina is like, well, it's even worse than cheering for Germany. Or does the prospect of financial gain negate the feelings of shame that all decent Englishmen should have?

Yes, the english can get better, but there are many exciting matches. Super with your new Plasma thing! Mr. and boy Blue decided as well, that exactly now, our old small TV isn't good anymore, but bought only an old-fashioned (but coloured!) TV, but a bigger one.It has not such a good picture quality, but it's an improvement and those old fashioned ones are really cheap at the moment! Boy blue managed the broadcasting of the sound to the balcony and now we have cinema there, looking throuhg the windows and forcing everybody ignorant to hear that its WM! Our lifes seem to be similar at the moment...

In the end Green Haddock, England is on to the next round, who cares how they got there. If the US manages to go further, that will certainly be my sentiments.

As you may have guessed,I don't have a clue about football but I was just reading yesterday in Focus magazine about the poor picture quality of plasma TVs. I had no idea and I guess a lot of people who buy them don't either. Hope you were able to exchange yours.

In the best of world's it would be England and US in the finals, Just to piss off the "Axis of Weasel" ;)

Sorry to hear about the plasma ... We went the LCD (Samsung) route, and although the Partnerin and I are pleased, I still get Plasma-envy in the stores because it clearly is brighter.
