The Italian Alps
One of the disadvantages of shift work is that I quite often have to work on public holidays. Last year I worked Christmas day and Boxing Day, which really isn’t a problem as Christmas is celebrated on the 24th here in Germany and I was off work on that day. For the New Year we spent a couple of days in Munich followed by a week in Süd Tirol in the Italian Alps. I found Munich really quite interesting and was rather pleased to find a Bayern Munich fan shop in the centre of town. By pure coincidence I happened to be wearing a Werder Bremen scarf. A photo was a natural formality.
On New years day we headed south throughAustria and via the Brenner Pass into Italy . Our destination was the Sarntal Valley where with had rented a house on a farm along with family members Deepblue, Mr Blue and Boyblue. We had a wonderful relaxing week, with really good company and excellent food. The weather varied from lots of snow to clear blue skies. We visited Bozen to see the Otzi exhibition which we all enjoyed. It’s weird to see a 5000 year old corpse. The Juniorette and her cousin were learning to ski most days and after 5 lessons the Juniorette skied down from the top of the mountain with her ski instructor. This included a black run. Mrs H and her sister were on skis for the first time in 20 years and both did very well indeed. Rather then risk broken bones Mr Blue and I decided on filming events instead, although I have promised the Juniorette that I will learn to ski next year.
On New years day we headed south through
The week was over far too quickly. The Juniorette loved sledging every day and feeding the chickens & ducks on the farm. The farm house was built totally from wood and great to stay in. I think it’s safe to say we will be going back again next year.

Wonderful Haddock! Looks like a great time! Is there anything that Juniorette doesn't want to try? She is some girl, you should be very proud!
Sounds like you had a smashing time. The Juniorette is a quick learner, you'd better get going next year as promised. Happy New Year!
First I want to wish you a happy new year! Better late than never, right? Hope you guys had a great time in Italy. From the photos, it looks like you did! Can you believe I haven't made it on a ski trip yet???? One of these days.....
Buon Anno!

brrrrrrr!
You should have popped in for a Bayern scarf, now that Borowski's switching over to FC Hollywood :-)
Happy 2008 to you and the rest of the family, blue or otherwise.
Sounds like a great break with lots of outdoor fun. But now it's back to the grindstone for everyone, right?
Sounds like you had a beautiful family holiday. The area sounds beautiful and I hope we are able to visit some day as well.
Nice to see you back.
My best,

I thought of you and the Juniorette yesterday when I heard about Tim B. being traded to Munich. I hope that the Juniorette does not convert her loyalties to FC!
Sounds like you and the family had a great break, but isn't it strange at home we pray for no snow, so where do we go on holiday !!!!.
Maribeth - We had a great time. We have to try and stop the Juniorette from doing too much! :)
Swenglishexpat - We've booked the holiday already, so I am committed to learning to ski. It should be fun to watch! :)
Cynthia - Happy New year to you guys too! Buon Anno!
J - But the cold was dry so it wasn't so bad :)
Martina - I would never do that! :)
Ex-shammickite - Happy New Year to you to.....and you're right, it's back to the grindstone of work......but it keeps me busy! :)
Dorothy - We had a wonderful time, and it was very relaxing for me. We are going back next year! :)
Claire - There were a lot of tears as Tim B. is the Juniorettes favourite player. I have never seen her so upset. She punched her punch ball until her knuckles bled, but it helped her calm down. The major factor was that he is going to Bayern. The Juniorette is a very loyal person and feels betrayed that he is going. She now understands his motives, but there is no chance that she will change her loyalties. Sie ist 100% Gruen - Weiss!
Bigbikerbob - Snow is good for holidays but a pain in the arse for everday living! :)
IT sounds like your vacation was so wonderful and of course I've been too involved to blog lately.. See what I've missed!
Haddock, looking forward to see you skiing. You cannot let Juniorette outshine you.

Juniorette what a great time you had, both skiing and at the farm.
