Not so wishy washy

Last week our washing machine took a turn for the worse. During the spin cycle it sounded like it was going to explode. So Mrs H and I decided to order a new one before the old one gave up the ghost. For once we didn't impulse buy. We actually looked at several machines, compared attributes and prices and settled on buying the latest all singing & dancing model from Quelle.

Well to our surprise the new machine leaked water- Not much, but it got worse every time we used it. The leak appeared to be originating from under the machine. We contacted Quelle on Monday and a replacement new machine arrived today. As the old one was removed we found out that it was also leaking oil (presumably from the motor). This is the second time we have returned purchases to Quelle and the service has been really good both times, which for a German firm is saying something.

The new replacement machine checked out good and did not leak any water. It was also a lot quieter on the spin cycle and didn't vibrate so much. A result. On Friday we take delivery of the new car. Hopefully we won't have any problems with that.

Washing machines seem to be a hit or miss thing here more often than I've seen elsewhere ... good thing it was a small leak, eh?

Ours has a fantastic new noise, too - oh dear, hopefully I don't have to order a new one. Good luck for the new car and bye to the good old one!

I've yet to order/buy anything from Quelle, but it's good to know if I do and it's crap, they'll do something about it.

Speaking of new (major) purchases... how's the new Skoda working out?

I've heard (and have) mixed reviews of Quelle. I've bought an AEG dishwasher from them that was obviously buggered when delivered and they changed it no problems or questions asked. However - and it's a big however - I bought a widescreen tv/cinema system thingy from their own brand (Universum) which was a re-branded Philips. They repaired it (reluctantly) 3 times in the first 6 months of it's life until it completely died 11 months after I bought it.
Oh, how they tried to drag the whole procedure out until the machine was outside its 12 month guarantee.
It took a letter from a lawyer 'friend' to get it fixed / swapped for the latest model which worked very well indeed, thankyouverymuch - but there seemed to be no real reason why they were sometimes ultra-helpful and sometimes ultra-useless. Glad to hear you're on full spin cycle again though.....

After hearing some very loud noises coming from the laundry room yesterday I found our washing machine trying to make a run for it. Had to push it back into place but I'm hoping that the load was just distributed unevenly.

I like Quelle as a whole for the small stufff. but we haven't ordered any major appliances from them. Probably hit or miss in the repairs and customer service department. Hope the new machine holds out!

Congrats on the new washer, and I am looking forward to seeing Juniorette with "her" new car!

It's great to have had such good service from these Quelle people (never heard of 'em) on two separate occasions, but really, their product should NOT have to be returned. When I buy a NEW EXPENSIVE piece of equipment I get VERY UPSET if there's something wrong with it. I may be posting about this in the next week or so.... stay tuned.

I think the car could work out okay, as long as you don't do laundry in it.

Mike B - I think just buying anything nowadays is hit & miss! :)

Deepblue - New car arrived today. No probs so far! :)

Eurotrippen - The new Skoda Roomster is going well :)

Inactualfact - We bought a Phillips Plasma TV from Quelle for the world cup and were disapointed with the picture quality, so we took it back got our money back, and then bought a Panasonic from another shop. I think the service from Quelle depends on which way the wind is blowing or if there is a R in the month :)

Christina - bec areful of those POW washing machines as they are always trying to escape. I advise to check for escape tunnels :)

Maribeth - Funnily enough the Juniorette considers the new car as hers! :)

ex-shammickite - I hate it as well when something new is not as it should be! :)

I.I.Barkat - I always get driving and doing the laundry confused! :)

Expat Traveller - Quelle seem to be purely a German company :)

It is quite often that a lot of people are complaining about the same thing. You can actually go the the website http://www.43vents.com and let your negative emotions out. You can also check if there are other people having similar complaints. If there only was a place in the world where companies actually read those complaints... But who knows, maybe this 43vents.com will become one some time!

I was just bouncing from blog to blog, and have spent the past few moments reading yours. Very nice blog.
My washing machine broke last week as well!
Until I'm able to afford the repair, I've been doing my laundry elsewhere-- quite a bother!
Glad to hear everything worked out well for you.
I'll be back to read more later!

Could you stop hotlinking my image? Yes, that is actually mine and you're still using a significant amount of my bandwidth, even though it has dropped off your frontpage.

It was OK for a while, but I'm getting a bit annoyed now.
