Sloworms, Frogs & Cats

On a walk through the woods last week the Juniorette spotted a Sloworm. I had walked past it, but the Juniorette’s eagle eyes didn’t fail her. It was the first one I have seen for a few years. As a kid I used to catch them and then release them into a sand pile we had in the back garden. The photo (click to enlarge) shows the Sloworm in the Juniorette’s hands.

Our Tomcat not content with bringing home birds and butterflies now has a new prey on his list – Frogs. He brought home a fully grown one the other day. The Juniorette and I released it into a neighbour’s pond. The neighbour reported that he thought our cat a bit unusual as he has seen him jumping into the pond on numerous occasions. He is right! Our tomcat goes on walks with us and isn’t scared of dogs. The surprising thing is that when dogs realise he is not scared of him, they leave him alone.

On a funny note, Freenet wrote me an email last week saying that unfortunately they are unable to process my application for DSL as it is not available in my area. This is of course very nice of them to inform me, apart from the little fact that I applied for their service in August of last year. Who says there is no customer service in Germany!

Haddock, that is one awesome pic of the sloworm. I've actually never heard of or seen one before. Must be native to your area or just isn't on the WEst coast.

And the cat, that's crazy. Our kitten thinks he's a dog and goes after mr. twist and fetches the ball too (bringing it back in his mouth).

I'm still shooting to film them both in action!

Cats are so fun. We had one who literally thought she was a wild girl. SHe even took off on her own camping trips each summer, only to reappear in the fall.

Expat - I think they are native to most of Europe. They are a member of the lizard family even though they have no legs. They look like a snake but are completely harmless :)

Maribeth - Our Tomcat is well known in the area and strays quite far. He is sometimes seen down by the local river. But he always comes homne for dinner! :)

Great pic! I saw one down by the river recently but it took off before I could get a better look. Hurray for the Juniorette not being an "eewwww" kinda gal when it comes to slithery stuff :-)

Sounds like typical Freenet - apparently they haven't leased any DSL lines in your area. Have you tried 1+1 or Arcor?

We have quite a few sloworms here, too. They just lie lazily in the sun.

Cats are so funny. I know quite a few that would probably have good stories to tell :-)

Hey! That's what they are called. I saw one while hiking in Southern Bavaria. I learn something everyday :-)

I lived with a cat just like that, fearless against vacuums and dogs. His brother was the true cat.

Cat stories... my parents have a cat that catches frogs in their garden, brings them home gently in his mouth and deposits them alive in his water bowl, where he proudly presents them as his new pet!

Often the poor frogs die of shock though.
