tger greenhaddock: Bin Laden's son is a twat

Bin Laden's son is a twat

I have just had a situation on the tram here in Frankfurt on the way to work. As normal when trying to get on a tram at the train station there is a bit of a queue, and ours was being held up because a person getting off the tram was saying goodbye to a friend, but in a really slow and protracted way. So I said ‘Some time this week would be good’, he replied aggressively but I didn’t understand him as I had Robbie Williams blaring away on my MP3 player. So I simply told him to FUCK OFF! – Normal course of action I thought.

It was at this point he decided to stay on the tram, and I realised that I had just told Osama bin Laden’s son to fuck off. That’s exactly who he looked like, but younger. He had the scraggy beard, Cat Stevens skull cap, and was wearing a big Islamic dress thing.

He looked at me angrily so I stared at him and smiled. He asked me if I was a clown. When I replied in English he gibbered on about New York and London, and then said that I don’t respect people and that I think that everyone is dumb. I replied that respect has to be earned, and that there are a lot of dumb people in the world. Fact. In the end he stayed on for 3 stops, and I had the definite feeling this jerk was trying to get me to rise to his bait. He seemed to believe he was arguing with the big white Satan. I refrained from saying a lot of things I wanted to say, which is probably good as they would have only inflamed the situation.

So if I get murdered in the near future, somebody please tell the cops to search for Bin Laden’s son in Frankfurt. He should be easy to spot, dressed as he is, plus when up close you can see that he has green teeth, and doesn’t believe in basic body hygiene.

Good luck.

Do be careful. Over here, anytime one sees a Bin Laden type I'm afraid we tend to react. Of course up here in the sticks of New Hampshire, if I saw a Bin Laden type, I'd be on the phone to the FBI, CIA or anyone!

Buddy, you have more than a whiff of xenophobia there. But then again, a moron like you wouldn't recognize the symptoms even if they would crawl up in your trashy British ass. See, cheap put downs are SOO easy.

Finlander - Ewwww. Very touch-eee, aren't we?
Haddock- I wouldn't worry too much (if he's not one you've seen regularly on that tram). But do keep your eyes open. It is a bit scary.

Fondue girl, to me it's starting to look like another round of "lets get rid of them untter menchen" is growing in strenght. Well, 60 yrs is a long time and bad habbits die hard. But, what the hell is your problem, being middle class with the Canadian connection? Did you grow up in the Alberta supremacist mountain village?

Just be careful. In my days of working on the ambulance, I saw way too many people shot, stabbed or beat the hell up just for "disrespecting". It is just not worth it and you were wise NOT to sink to this jerk's level.

"Can't we all just get along"? hehehhee.

Take care of yourself!

Expat - He was definitely too young to the the man himself :)

Capgas - I now really regret ordering my new alarm clock via mail order :)

HI - Only a few months before the first brigade of the English tourism board arrives! :)

Finlander - Your anger surpises me for someone so concerned, or is it just attention seeking. I think I know the answer :)

Canadianswiss - I'm not the worrying type :) bUt I will keep my eyes open!

Beaman - Sadly street violence seems to be on the increase.

Finlander - I hate pigots too :) I think I might have to tell your mummy to restrict your internet access.

Cynthia - I will definitely be careful :)

The thing is, I understand what started it all. I HATE when people take their time getting off the train. Some people block the enterance and turn around and don't seem to notice the crowd of people trying to get on the plane. It was like when I was at Ikea a few weeks ago. A woman, husband and four kids stopped in the middle of the walkway to discuss a bookshelf, quickly clogging up the walkway artery. In English I went, "Come on!" It is a big pet peeve of mine.

Ben - So what makes you think I am racist? I see from your site that you refer to yourself as a marxist revolutionary. A bit extreme isn't it?

Yeah, assholes bug me, too. I'm just trying to figure out what the hell guy's race got do with it? What an earth is the burning need to bring up him being Osama bin Laden's son? With one xenophobic swipe you defamed the whole religion, culture and perhaps the damn sub continent. Nice going, you racist wingnut!

But maybe you are uniquely qualified to do such thing because we all know how well you English behave. There is nothing more uplifting and heart warming than to see some of your country men in action at closing time in Prague and Tallin.

I am no bloger and I am certainly not hiding my identity. I am willing to meet you behind your favorite pub at your convinience. I think you and I could be blood brothers (wink, wink, nudge, nudge).

Oh by the way, my Mommy said that I am allowed to kick your racist and lardy British ass any time.

Finlander's got an interesting approach by denouncing race being brought up in your post while insulting your nationality at the same time -- pure genius. Threatening to kick your ass was the cherry on his idiocy sundae.

I do see some things he is probably seizing on though -- you said the guy looked like Osama, but substantiated it by saying he had the beard/cap/dress combo. By that measure, there are quite a lot of relatives of Osama running around. Also, the great white satan thing assumed that he was a 'crazy fundamentalist' asshole, as opposed to a 'hold up the train up and yell at strangers' asshole -- which was all the informatin you seemed to have at the time. Anyway, I wasn't there, so I'm just assuming, but assholes are assholes are assholes is what I'm trying to say.

Hamish, you don't seem to be the sharpest knife in a drawer. This is exactly my point; all the race, nation and religion based generalizations are SOO dumb! This is what I am complaining about and that is exactly the reason why I choose the language I used but for some reason it doesn't seem to bother anybody when it's directed towards "THEM".

If you guys are comfortable with this posting and it's sensation seeking picture, too, I am afraid that Europe has learned precious little from it's less than stellar past. However, this raindeer herder is not going to join this brown shirt parade.

Bob - Is it me or are people generally having less manners nowaday? :)

Finlander - He just looked liked Bin Ladens son. If he looked like GW Bush I would have said so and said something non complimentary as well. If he had been wearing a kilt I would have slagged of the Scots as well......etc
You seem to get upset too easy mate. As for religion I dont believe in it. I am not xenophobic or racist either. I judge people on a personal level and this guy on the tram was a twat no matter what his ethnic origin.
I'll see you outside the pub then.

Matt - yeah I seem to upset a couple of people with a couple of generalisations.

Hamish - My references were not meant to wind up the loons. If the git on the tram had been fat. I would have called him a fat twat. I just used the tools at hand. It certainly wasnt meant to sound racist.

Finlander - Being comfortable, or not overreacting?- you seem to align youself with Finland. Which side were they on in WW2?

Haddock, I've read the blog & the comments.
Very intersting. The point of the blog is about someone being selfish & holding up a tram full of people during the rush hour.
I think the use of the term 'Bin Laden's son' was meant to be desriptive & possibly humorous but not racist.
The only person who has used race as a form of abuse is Finlander.
Haddock, I'd stick to blogs about gardening in future.

Haddock, I obviously bit more than I am able to swallow with you, mate. If I haven't been able to make you see the error of your ways by now, I propably never will. Bred in the bone, I suppose. I just promised to myself not be quiet when I see or hear racists, fully knowing that reactions would be more or less what you are dishing out.

I think your ignorance about the Finnish 20th Century history is such that it'd require quite a lot of time and space for me to star to elucidate you. But if you are compelled enough, I'd be pleased to refere you to some reasonable websites. Just let me no if you do.

Just shortly; Finland was on nobody's side in the WWII. We were atacked by the neighbors to the east in 1939 and lost with the real estate also human lifes. When Germany attacked the Soviets later, we saw our chance to get the said land back. We didn't embrace the German idiology at the time, if that's what you are hinting, and at the end we also had to fight the Germans out of Finnish Lapland, which suffered almost total destruction by the retreating Germans. And this is where this lesson ends.

And like I said, I feel you are woefully ignorant about the subject in hand and what it is to be a small country that is just another insignificant chess piece to be moved by the super powers. Please, let me know if you wish to learn more, for I can help. However, your undeniable racist tendensies has to be corrected by somebody a lot smarter than me.

Finlander - apologies for not seeing through your ironic (yet remarkably specific) comments leveled at the Brits. Perhaps next time you can label them more clearly for dull knives like me; it would go along way to help us from overreacting (see, I can be ironic too).

Haddock - I get where you were going with it -- if the guy looked like Osama, that's surely fodder, and nothing to get worked up about. Just wanted to point out where specifically in the post that people could have taken offense.

Dare I say anything here? The fact that my photo shows what some Europeans consider to be a "hate-symbol" gives me some reason for pause, but what the hell:

Yes, it is fair to say that many of us from the the two principle countries of the First World are still having issues with representatives of the Third World who choose to walk self-absorbedly among us using the liberties we fought for and maintain at our expense while at the same time flouting their contempt for the systems within which they spew their venom with such code-words as "New York" and "London".

Here in Euro-land, I am occasionally warned to watch my toungue in the face of these things not so much because I will be bodily harmed but because I will be sued/prosecuted as the instigator of a hate crime. Haddock, I'm surprised no one has commented on this to you yet.

What is truly surprising is how much the Finn appears to have jumped outside the normal Euro system of handling things and has jumped down to "our" level by proffering a violent solution to this debate ;) Didn't their PM resign over questions of such things as to whether or not they endorsed things being done on "our" level?

Meanwhile, invited guests from the "oppressed" countries get to spew venom about "New York" and "London" with impunity, while those in the "cheap seats" of the Second World get to call us racists for the occasional gut-reaction to events rained down upon non-combatant civilians in the name of "retribution" by invited guests from the "oppressed" countries.

This is symptomatic of the "aligned but non-aligned Second World." Finland and the Second World War is a fine example ... yep, they weren't on the German side, but they fought for Greater Finland on the side of the Germans while the Germans were winning, and then they had to fight to get rid of the Germans for the temerity of thinking they could retreat across their non-ally's territory. What friends!

No wonder Finland has the highest suicide rate in the world ... they can't figure out who they are for or against, so roughly 24 to 26 out of 100,000 (depends on whose statistics you take) take their aggression out on themselves. Haddock, you simply motivated one to turn his innate aggression on you. Good job! You've helped a Finn to look beyond his nose, and perhaps saved his life for a few more cold years.

Yep, cheap shot. I seem to be a Finn-hater ... I didn't think I was, since I had a few Finn friends in New York, but having expressed such an opinion, even in jest, must mean I was simply keeping a few Token Finns around to assuage my inner guilt for being a Finnist.

Notice, however, that although I am by birth not an enlightened European, I do not sink to the level of the Finn (who ostensibly is an enlightened European by birth) and resort to name-calling and provocations of violence.

Nevertheless, I will be glad to join you at the pub, not because I endorse the violence that has been advocated by our enlighted European friend from Finland, but to make sure you and the Finn are fairly matched (since these Euro-types tend to travel in packs ... omigod, now I've made a Euroist remark), and after the appropriate a**-whipping has taken place, I will buy you a pint to celebrate.

Sheesh... what a lot of testosterone there is in here! To offset some of it I think I'll bust out one of my favorite quotes...

Now let's all hold hands and hum a few versus of kum ba yah...

I will say it again. I am not racist, and I do not believe this post to be racist either. I can see why a few people are having a problem - its called over reacting. What would have been the reaction if the guy on the tram had been Welsh and I called him a sheep shagger. Most people would call that humour (including the Welsh) and not racism. Enough said. Nobody will change their viewpoints.

So as Eurotrippen said, now lets all hold hands (and that means you as well Finlander).......Kum ba ya.... :)

Haddock, it's seems to be time to put this baby to bed. No amount of arguing is going to change anything. You firmly believe that you are not a racist and I stedfastly insist you being one, at least in this particular instance.

The poll (the other comments) shows that this seems to be a majority win for you. I hope that it's only a reflection on my crude usage of English and not a sign of a more wide spread xenophobia than I thought.

All together now; Kum ba ya...

I think it was the "he has green teeth, and doesn’t believe in basic body hygiene" that really brought the nut cases to the surface Haddock.

That was extremely hurtful and very racist. You seem to be implying that all Arabs have green teeth and smell. Don’t you feel equally horrified when we shameless Americans make fodder of the British and their mouths full of crooked teeth?

Well, pardon me while I go extract my tongue from its firm position inside my cheek.

"Rasist"... probably one of the most overstated words in the English language.

Ben - So nice of you to stop by again. In your first comment you said

I checked your blog and found the following

Warning: Harrassing and Off-topic comments will be deleted, and if you repeatedly do this, you will be blacklisted.

Looks like you dont mind dishing out the verbals, but are not very good at taking criticism.

How is the weather in Sydney at the moment? normally I get on rather well with Aussies due to a mutual love of the game of cricket, but somehow I dont think you are a cricket fan :)

Just another - It wasn't meant to be sterotypical (is that a word?). The guy really did smell and have green teeth!......which reminds me I must make a dental appointment :)
I agree, the Racist term is too easily used and overstated. It probably causes more conflicts that it solves.

I took the disclaimer off. I tried the civil route but it seems racists just get me riled up so much, I can't resist.

Just to restate my case, no form of racism, however light, is acceptable. It's the most disgusting form of discrimination on the earth. You have no idea how much comments like that hurt Muslim people I know. They can't even walk into their own mosque without someone screaming 'terrorist!'

Australia's weather is pretty horrid at the moment. It's just gotten cold. As for cricket, I'm not a fan. I used to when I was a kid, but the nationalism is too much to bear nowadays.
