A new motor

With all the footy stuff going lately I’ve almost forgotten to mention that we ordered a new car a few weeks ago. We are buying another Skoda, this time a Roomster. For lots of years Skoda’s were the butt of many jokes, and quite rightly as they were utter crap. But since the takeover by the VW they have become solid, reliable cars. Basically they are rebadged Volkswagens without the expensive price tag.

Because the Roomster is a new model we have to wait until March for delivery, but that’s not a problem for us. When the Juniorette heard that the Octavia would be going (Trade in), she shed a few tears. She said she has always known this car for as long as she can remember, and would miss it. I never thought about it that way before.

I sat in one of those at the auto show in Frankfurt last year and thought they seemed ok. I'm surprised you're trading in the Octavia, though. The Roomster seems smaller and like it wouldn't be as comfortable on long distance trips.

My son loves Skodas. I still have the Skoda song (sung in French) from going to the Tour de France this past summer. S k O d A!
We've even got Skoda hat's as freebies.

Cute car. Give Juniorette a hug from me. I can relate to her sadness at saying goodbye to a favorite car.

Aww. That's so cute. I guess Skoda has risen just like the Seat. I'm sure she'll love the new one as much as she like the Octavia :-)

I feel the same way when G trades his car in every three years. We spend so much time in it, it starts feeling like a member of the family.

This is really low of me to say, but the name of this brand makes me giggle. I think it was all those years of watching Beavis and Butthead. They're terrible influences.

It's always interesting to hear the child's perspective. Sometimes they have private griefs we know nothing about.

Oh, and I don't know when you stopped by Green Inventions Central (oops, had the email notification shut off!), but I wanted to thank you for stopping by. It's kind of my little pet blog and one I plan to include my kids in (my eldest daugher, 9, is a budding scientist. :)

Hello Mate!

Yes I remeber all the old Skoda jokes but they have come a long way since then.

I do not really support Aston Villa but I like your joke on my blog.

Hope you have a good Christmas if I do not chat to you before!

All the best

Martin

J - The Octavia may be bigger, but the Rommster meets our needs better. Plus it 7 years old now. Time for a change :)

Bob - I've not seen that DVD. I'll try and hire it. The couch is always there! :)

Andrea W - The Juniorette has a couple of green Skoda Teddy Bears! :)

Maribeth - Hug given. I'm sure she will get used to the new car soon enough. She helped choose the colour :)

CanadianSwiss - All the car brands that Volkswagen aquired have risen in terms of quality :)

Eurotrippen - I remember your blog entry about that lol :)

Lisa - Beavis & Butthead were brilliant! :)

I.I. Barkat - It so easy to forget to see a childs perspective. I'll be dropping by more at Green Inventions Central. Haddock likes his things green :)

ex- shammickite - That's just my terrible Devon English! :)

Martin - Hope you have a good Xmas as well. Have a few beers for me! :)

I've always loved the unique styling of European cars. This one looks pretty cool. From the front, it looks like a sedan, from the back, an SUV.

American cars seem far less innovative. That could also because the "out there" designs typically flop (have you ever seen a Pontiac Aztec? ouch)

Sounds so cool. We drove an octavia last visit in 2005 and we fell in love with it. Our only problem is that we can't get that car yet here! Wishing... LOL - and I still can't used to having to order a car...

Wish you and yours many safe kilometers with the new purchase. Congrats! You're absolutely right about the significant improvement done on Skoda cars after the take over by VW.

The octavia is a fantastic car. I love the knowing nod you get from other skoda drivers to signify that your not put off by the old stereotype. However i do still enjoy listening to the skoda jokes at the site skoda jokes
