A new sign

I mentioned last year that the Juniorette won a competition to design a road sign. The sign shows that our road is a place where children are allowed to play and car drivers must take extra care, She drew the picture almost a year ago, and now (as shown ) it has been turned into a road sign. She is very proud of this, but I suspect in a few years time she may be embarrassed by it. I on the other hand will always be proud of her achievement.

The Juniorette returned to school earlier this week after the Christmas break. She has been becoming more tired every morning as the week has gone on. She leaves the house at 07:30 for the 15min walk to school. It can not be fun when it has been minus temperatures every morning this week. But a cold brisk walk first thing can only but help build her immune system.

I think it's a sweet picture!

My little guy leaves at 7:30 too in the cold and the dark for his 10 minute walk to school and I feel so sorry for him. It's hard for them to get back in the swing of things after the Christmas holiday. Both of mine have been dead tired lately.

Here in Frence it is:

Monday,Tuesday,Thursday and Friday
08h30 - 11h30

That's a really cute picture.

I think your Juniorette will only go through a phase where it will be embarrassing before finding it a rather fine momento of her childhood. It is a rather lovely idea.

I wish there was more focus on getting children to walk to school here, you are right it is is good for the immune system and the fitness levels. I guess to go into parent cliché mode for a moment 'it's character-building stuff!'

I think little kids in Germany start school super early. I didn't start school so early until I was in high school but my husband says when he was a wee one he had to start school 7:30 and when he was six years old had to be at the swimming pool at 6am for his swimming class. A school class that started at 6am!

That sign is adorable. She should be so proud!

I suspect she will feel embarassed later on too. That 15 mins walk must be brutal in the dark. YUCK! But then again, I was up at 4:30 am swimming in my youth. I guess that's still a few more years off in age though..

Christina - I think its a shock to the system for the kiddies to get up again so early after the Xmas holidays.

Leon's Life - The times vary in Germany. Juniorette starts at 08:00 and finishes at 11:30. She also attends a pre & after school club which is supervised and runs from 07:30 - 08:00 and 11:30 to 14:00.

Red Baron - "it's character-building stuff!" - I totally agree. All sounds rather British!

Dixie - It is rather early. As a kid I could never have coped getting up that early :)

Expat traveller - 04:30! that is just too early. I have to get up at 04:00 when I am on early shift. If I tried to swim at that time of day I would drown!

JME - I agree the sign is excellant. For me it captures the feeling of childhood.
