Freenet are shit

Freenet are shit, and that's a fact. We ordered internet DSL with them early last August and to date we are still waiting. We have sent mails to Freenet requesting an update on the situation, and we are always told that T-Com are dragging their heels over some technical aspect. I work in the Telecoms industry and I can smell bullshit a mile off. But we thought we would give them the benefit of the doubt.

Last month we confronted a Freenet promotion stand in Marburg and were told that quite often ordering via the internet didn't always work out so well. We were given a form to fill in, and the address of a man responsible for Freenet in our area to send the form to. We were promised that we would have DSL within 2 weeks. We didn't take that too seriously, and quite rightly so. It's way over the 2 week mark and we haven't heard a dicky bird from Freenet.

Yesterday Mrs H sent them another email, to which they replied that they are still awaiting a reply from T-Com to find out if DSL is available in our area. Unbelievable, after 6 months they have done jackshit. My neighbours have DSL so it is available. To my surprise Mrs H replied with an email saying that if we don't have a working solution within 3 weeks they can ram their signed contract right up their arse. Most excellent. I personally would have added that we know where they live, and that the horses head is in the post.

So without making a claim to have crystal balls (I know I do not, as I've seen the ultra sound pictures), I think I can safely predict that in 3 weeks nothing will have happened. We will then order DSL from T-Com. This of course means I will probably be writing another post in 6 months titled 'T-Com are shit'

I've been a little creeped out by Freenet since seeing their commericals. The female of their mascot bird duo has breasts. Think about that.

I had similar problems with NTL over here, 9 months it took before I lost my patience and told them to pick there kit up and feck off, the amount of time wasted calling them trying to sort stuff out and they didn't seem interested in even trying to solve anything.

I guess companies feel now that they'll lose money if they attend to anyone with problems so they're content just to rake in the cash from those who are ok and stuff the rest.

LOL @ dixie's comment. I never noticed the breasts before. Thank heavens.

I obviously know EXACTLY how you feel about the internet connecting fiasco. I seriously have no idea why in a country renowned for efficiency things move slower than a slug smokin' weed.

I really do sympathise. If I had to pick a company I would go with 1&1. They were pretty good about setting us up on time. It's a shame we can't use them anymore.

I had a similar problem with a French company called Cegetel.

They upgrade our DSL line after a year with no problems. When they upgraded they must have f***up as nothing worked. So they gave 500 hours of free dial-up( the 500 hours surely wasn't a good sign)

We sent stinking mails and resorted to a few insulting telephone calls and threats (something that I loathed to do) and after around 6 weeks everything is working again.

Now that all is up and running we phoned to tell them how shitty their service was and we got 2 months (around 30.00 euros) of free use. We didn't even really need to ask for this, they must be so used to getting irrate calls.

I loved your remark, an Interent provider says that signing up via internet doesn't always work. Do they realise how dumb that remark is.

Ruth - At least T-com was quick. But being without a phone for a few days must be a bummer.

Dixie - That is kind of wierd I must admit.

Red Baron - I agree with you totally. Telecoms customer service has gone right down the toilet

Belinda - Our new plan is to go with T-com for a year and then change to another provider. I will have to check out 1&1

Pauline - Looks like all DSL providers are crap!
You are so right about the Freenet remark!.....it does sound so dumb :)

Lydia - Thanks for stopping by. Germany does get easier. Pop back any time you like.

James - I think this is the best plan! :)

Those green Freenet chickens ARE very creepy. We switched from T-Com to htp (Hannover Telefon Partner or something) several years ago and got DSL through them, but those Freenet people are lurking everywhere at every town function here to try to suck people in.

Hope someone connects you to something very soon!

They're trying to lure people to the dark underworld where birds have breasts!

Bummer on your DSL delay. I quite enjoyed your 'we know where you live and have the horse's head in the post" line. Classic.

Sounds like the same situation I had in France, only it took like 2.5 months or more! I was so pissed because the only source I had was an internet cafe! Talk about a big bummer.

Your situation actually reminds me of what my parents went through back in 1998 and since I also worked in telecom at the time, I knew they were bluffing also. We actually made the box for the entire system...

Hope the bs'ers get their arse in gear or you find something that actually works!

Hi Haddock,

I feel with you. We had similar problems when asking Acor to provide us with aDSL and ISDN. But in their defense they really did a great job talking to me, offering compensation and kicking T-Com butt at the same time.

What happend was that the T-Com engineer came round, decided she wanted to go home again (it was 0730h) and left a note saying our doorbell wasn't marked! Bullshit, it's got our name and flat number on it... .

I guess that since everyone relies on T-Com for their "last mile" they can do nothing but wait for T-Com engineers to get their act together.

Have fun and good luck,
Axel

Christina & Dixie - I think Freenet and the birds with breasts have an evil plan to take over the world!

Lydia _ I've blogrolled you too!

Rocky - Nothing like the Godfather to scare the telecoms companies :)

Expat - Customer service in the Telecoms industry sucks. They seem to think that if they lie to a customer, the customer wont notice!

Sparky (Mr XXL Schnitzel eater!) - It looks like T-Com is the only way to go!

Axel - Thanks for stopping by. The problem is always the last mile. Some cable companies are now doing packages for DSL & phone. Trouble is they will have to rip my driveway up and drill a hole into my cellar to get the cable to the house. Too much to go wrong for my liking!
