Achtung Baby!
A strange thing happened earlier this week when the Juniorette and I were watching an U21 International football game on TV. England were playing Germany, and the Juniorette asked me who I was cheering for. I replied instantly and without thought……the answer was Germany. I wasn’t shocked by my reply as it was instinctive. But I guess I really do consider Germany my home nowadays.
The Juniorette didn't really care who won, she just wanted the Werder Bremen player Aaron Hunt (who like her is also half English, half German) to play well. In the end England won 2-0.

Our heart has two halfs,so it can beet for two countries. As you live in Germany for many years, it's logical for me, that you instinctively prefered the german team. When you would live for a longer time in England again, maybe then the other side of the heart would beat stronger. For the english side of the heart: Gibt es nicht bald ein Spiel Tottenham Hotsp. gegen Frankfurt oder so? (Und Werder gegen Frankfurt?!)
Haddock has been assimilated! Run for the hills! :-) :-)
Here's the real test... did you "Boo"?
I'm shocked. Shocked! If you now start saying that you bought an Arsenal shirt, I'm going to get the Polizei to look for the real Haddock....
Unfortunatley, it looks like I'll be stuck here for the long run too. However, that doesn't mean I still can't hope the German team loses..lol
Deepblue - Spurs are playing Bayer Leverkusen. Trying to get tickets is proving a bit tricky though. Werder are playing Frankfurt in December and the Haddocks will be there! :)
Christina - Jawohl! :)
II Barkat - Not booing exactly! but maybe the odd naughty word (in English of course) :)
Neil - Never fear I could never wear an ARSEnal shirt. My body would reject it! :)
J - How could you not cheer on a nation that invented sauerkraut (I guess thats just an upset German really!) :)
Ick! You said Germany?? Oh well, okay. OK, I cheer for the Swiss team - WHEN I watch them play- then for the Dutch - WHEN I watch them play...I mean the Canadians are nohere in that sport, right??...
I think I'd better stick to ice hockey.. :-)
lol - I have seen myself doing that too for Canada.... Funny how things change.
Oh my, now I remember why I subscribed to Sky!
It's funny how quickly and unnoticeably a change like that can take place, isn't it? I suspect the grand WM summer that we had (the "Stimmung") might have had a bit to do with it, or at least accelerated the process ;-)
