Bomber Harris was a bastard

........and that's all I have to say on the matter. Anyway the Juniorette was on a school trip for a few days this week, so Mrs H and I headed east to Dresden. We really enjoyed our short break there, and would like to visit again sometime. We stayed in a hotel on the Sächsen Weinstrasse, which is Germany's easternmost and smallest wine making region. We were particularly taken by the kötzschenbroda area of Radebeul, and enjoyed a rather tasty Indian curry there.

We decided to do the sightseeing bus tour rather than just wander round Dresden as we were short of time. I was quite surprised, the tour was really good and informative. The bus driver was quite a laugh as well. Overall we were really impressed with Dresden and found the Baroque style architecture of the restored older buildings to be outstanding.

Before heading home we drove to the Czech Republic. We started to drive to Prague but turned around about half way. The lure of the sofa at home and a nice hot cup of tea were too great. I found the contrast between Germany and the Czech Republic quite startling in terms of landscape and housing. I found it quite weird that the grass was brown there, whereas just over the border in Germany, it was green.

We are planning to return to the area again sometime with the Juniorette, and then we will visit Prague properly.
